“With the right mix of affordable airfares, improved infrastructure, and investor-friendly policies, Kenya can reclaim its place as a regional MICE powerhouse – and even aspire to compete with global hubs like London, Berlin, or Shanghai. With strategic investment in air connectivity, infrastructure, and world-class facilities, coupled with sustainable and inclusive practices, Kenya can reclaim its place as East Africa’s MICE powerhouse,” Bauck added.
I was quoted in Tourism Update on Kenya’s MICE recovery, where I argued that the private sector is doing much of the heavy lifting in bringing Nairobi back as a serious events hub. My contribution focused on the infrastructure and policy gaps still holding the sector back: the need for a centrally located private conference hotel with large-scale event capacity, cheaper and more competitive air access, simpler entry processes for delegates, and stronger incentives for private investment in convention facilities. I made the case that, with the right mix of air connectivity, infrastructure, and investor-friendly policy, Kenya can strengthen its position as East Africa’s MICE hub and compete far more seriously on the global stage.
